| Located in Sun Valley, Idaho, SVHSG has over
750-square-miles of terrain in three mountain ranges. This prime
location gives our guests access to the services and ski area
of the Sun Valley Resort as well as amenities in the neighboring
town of Ketchum, such as fine dining and year-round cultural events.
Your choice to ski with us is the foundation for a wonderful family
vacation!
It is only fitting that the birthplace of heli-skiing in the United
States is Sun Valley, Idaho—the same locale dubbed “America’s
First Destination Ski Resort.”
The mountains surrounding the town of Ketchum were discovered
in 1935 to be the ideal surroundings for a ski resort and the
opening of the Sun Valley Resort followed just one year later.
The same spectacular terrain and pioneering spirit of the region
led to the founding of Sun Valley Heli-Ski Guides in 1966 by Bill
Janss, the owner of Sun Valley Resort.
Smoky Mountain Lodge
The Smoky Mountain Lodge is located west of Ketchum/Sun Valley
in the South Fork of the Boise River drainage. It is the only
fly-in heli-ski lodge in the lower 48 states. The scenic flight
into the lodge takes 20 minutes and crosses over the top of the
rugged Smoky Mountains. The only access to the lodge in the winter
is via helicopter.
The Smoky Mountain Lodge is a luxurious backcountry getaway with
all the amenities of home. A wood-burning stove and river rock
fireplace heat the great room and provide for a relaxing post-skiing
atmosphere. The 6 bedroom lodge sleeps 8 guests comfortably in
addition to the staff that caters to all of your needs. A local
chef will join every lodge trip. Meals include gourmet and healthy
entrees, fresh salads, and home baked bread.
All of the skiing/boarding from the lodge happens in our remote,
Smoky Mountain terrain. We have plenty of options to choose from
depending on weather and conditions. Most of the landing zones
are within 5 to 10 minutes flight time from the lodge.

the hut is a Mongolian style yurt, warmed by a wood-burning stove
and furnished with a complete kitchen set-up. It sleeps 8 skiers
plus guide(s). A wood-heated sauna rounds out the facilities.
Located in a meadow rimmed with trees, the yurt is the gateway
to skiing the heart of this idyllic range. Terrain includes large
open bowls, rugged peaks, and rolling meadows. Snow conditions
range from ultra-light powder to unsurpassed, silky spring corn.
The SVHS yurt can be enjoyed on a standard, fully-guided trip
