Lower Animas River Class II-IIIA perfect Durango activity thats fun for the whole family. The Lower Animas offers fun and easy rapids all Summer - unless you arrive during peak runoff. In that case be prepared for plenty of excitement!
No trip to Durango is complete without a float down the Lower Animas. Perfect for churches, schools, families, couples, tourists and locals alike. This fun and convenient trip is perfect for large groups, families, and suitable for children 4 y/o and up. The Lower Animas starts on the North end of Durango near 32nd St and finishes 5-10 miles down stream depending on which trip you choose and the time of year. There are small class II rapids throughout the trip with the biggest rapid being located at Santa Rita Park known as Smelter. At high water Smelter has some big crashing waves and we will sometimes need to walk the small children in your group around this one depending on how high the water is. After Smelter the river returns back into is natural river bed where you’ll enjoy continuous small rapids through towering cottonwoods and lush riparian vegetation.
Up the ante with an Inflatable Kayak!
Inflatable kayaking is a great way to have your own personalized whitewater adventure. We can’t think of a better way for anyone to catch the “kayaking bug” than to join us on a guided inflatable kayaking trip. These boats are fun and easy to maneuver. Inflatable kayaks are the ultimate crafts for an exhilarating day of paddling on the river..

You're welcome to wear your own water shoes or you can rent ours for $5. We do not allow flip-flops on any of our raft trips.
